NetJapan, Inc., will release ActiveImage Protector 2.8 Virtual Edition,
a new version of backup solution for virtual environment

NetJapan, Inc., (Jiang, Guan Cheng, President/CEO, its principal office located in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan) will release its backup solution for virtual environment named ActiveImage Protector 2.8 Virtual Edition as on January 25, 2011. One license of ActiveImage Protector 2.8 Virtual Edition allows the user to use the backup solution for both Windows and Linux in virtual environment.

Product Summary/Background of Product Release

ActiveImage Protector is the imaging backup software that enables secure and fast backup of entire volume along with operating systems and applications without shutting them down. With the advent of virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware vSphere ESX, users are enabled to implement virtualization infrastructure more easily. In the meantime, adoption of Linux operating system within virtual machines is on the rise as well as Windows. There have been increasing requirements that the business applications running on Windows 2000 Server and/or Server 2003 need to be migrated to Windows Server 2008 R2 with minimum workload.

Moreover, existing license policies in virtual environments with Windows and Linux running as the operating system within virtual machines have to charge license fees to match the number of running operating systems in virtual environment in the same manner as in physical environment. This means that, if Linux runs as the operating system within many virtual machines, an optional extra or a license fee for ActiveImage Protector Linux Edition would have to be additionally charged.

Under such circumstances, ActiveImage Protector 2.8 Virtual Edition, first-of-its-kind disk imaging technology in virtualization age, will be released to provide secure, affordable and high-speed backup/restore solution.

One license of ActiveImage Protector 2.8 Virtual Edition allows the user to backup both Windows and Linux environment, and you do not have to purchase extra license. The new “Virtual Environment License” allows the user to install one copy on one physical host machine, as well as virtual copies on an unlimited number of virtual machines. This streamlines license management and enables users to migrate to virtual world.

ActiveImage Protector 2.8 Virtual Edition consists of one license each for ActiveImage Protector Server Edition, Desktop Edition and Linux Edition.

• Hot Imaging backup of a Microsoft® Hyper-V™ host along with running Windows (physical machine)
• Hot Imaging backup of the respective guest virtual machines running on Hyper-V or vSphere

NetJpan, Inc., provides free user license of AIP Linux Edition to the user of ActiveImage Protector 2.7/2.5 who purchased AIP “Virtual Environment License” and the annual support service program which is currently effective. So, the user of ActiveImage Protector 2.7/2.5 will be offered free ActiveImage Protector 2.8 Virtual Edition upgrade from ActiveImage Protector 2.7/2.5 “Virtual Environment License”.
